Executive Chef, Barbette
Jessica Cak’s culinary roots are in central Wisconsin, where she first helped out in the kitchen at her parents’ from-scratch restaurant. After attending culinary school in Minneapolis, Jessica began her career at Corner Table and later made her mark at various Michelin Star and James Beard-awarded restaurants throughout the country, from Napa Valley to New York City to Austin, Texas. Years of travel made her realize that her heart belonged in the Midwest, prompting Jessica and her husband to settle in Minneapolis in 2016.
Fresh off a stint at Café Alma, Jessica is delighted to be at Barbette, which has held a place in Jessica’s heart since she first discovered it years ago. She’s thrilled to return both to Minneapolis and to her favorite cooking style, French cuisine, with a clean and seasonal approach. Jessica loves the fact that Barbette, like all Bartmann restaurants, has an established track record of using sustainably-sourced ingredients from local farmers and purveyors, a focus on low-waste practices, and a commitment investing in its employees—many of whom have been loyal staff members for years. She looks forward to using the skills she’s gained along the way to tinker with beloved Barbette menu items and focus on simple, subtle flavors in its cozy neighborhood setting.
In her spare time, Jessica enjoys working in her “yarden,” playing with her three rambunctious dogs, and adventuring out in a kayak. Oh, and she loves Tom Hanks.
